Even in sunny Florida, cold winter mornings can create challenges for local children without access to warm clothing. Tropic Moving and community partners are coming together to help.

MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — October 2026

When most people think of Florida, winter coats, hoodies, and cold weather are probably not the first things that come to mind. Known for sunshine, beaches, summer heat and mild winters, the Space Coast rarely experiences the harsh winter conditions seen in other parts of the country.

But for some children in Brevard County, even a chilly Florida morning can present a challenge that many of us never have to think about.

While temperatures may warm up by the afternoon even on “cold days”, early mornings during the winter months can dip into the 40s and occasionally even colder. For students waiting at bus stops, walking to school, or heading to class before sunrise, a warm jacket can make all the difference. As one of the drop off location partners, Mental Marauders Healing, said, “As a child and family therapist, I know that feeling safe, supported, and cared for goes far beyond the therapy room. Sometimes, something as simple as a warm jacket can make a meaningful difference in a child’s day.”

Unfortunately, not every family has the resources to purchase winter clothing, especially in a state where cold-weather attire may only be needed for a few months each year. It’s an often-overlooked need, and one that Tropic Moving hopes to help address through its newest community initiative: Make Life Warmer.

A Small Act of Kindness Can Make a Big Difference

Tropic Moving, a locally family owned moving company serving Brevard County, has partnered with the Brevard County Foster and Adoptive Parent Association as well as local small businesses to organize a winter clothing drive benefiting local students in need.

The initiative is collecting new and gently used jackets, hoodies, and beanies for children ranging from elementary school through high school.

For Tropic Moving, the effort is about more than collecting clothing. It’s about recognizing a need within the community and using the company’s local relationships to help make a difference.

Living in Florida, it’s easy to overlook the importance of winter clothing. Many families already have jackets hanging in their closets that their children have outgrown or no longer wear. For another child, that same jacket could provide much-needed warmth on a cold morning.

Something as simple as donating an unused hoodie or jacket could help a student get through the winter months more comfortably.

The company hopes to turn those small acts of generosity into a community-wide effort that reaches students throughout Brevard County.

Bringing the Brevard County Community Together

One of the driving forces behind the Make Life Warmer initiative is the belief that local businesses can do more when they work together.

What began as an idea to collect warm clothing has already grown into a collaborative effort, with several local organizations opening their doors as donation collection sites.

By establishing convenient drop-off locations in Melbourne, West Melbourne, and Rockledge, the initiative makes it easier for residents throughout central Brevard County to participate.

The participating community partners include Mental Marauders Healing, Dingers Training Center, and Hilton Melbourne, FL, alongside Tropic Moving.

Each business is helping extend the reach of the clothing drive by providing a place where community members can donate warm clothing for local children.

Working with Local Schools to Reach Students in Need

To help ensure donations reach the students who need them most, Tropic Moving has been in communication with Brevard County Public Schools’ Partners in Education (PIE) program regarding the Make Life Warmer initiative. These conversations have focused on understanding the needs of local schools and identifying the best ways to distribute donated winter clothing to students who could benefit most.

By connecting with local educators and school representatives, Tropic Moving hopes to make a meaningful impact and ensure the community’s generosity reaches children right here in Brevard County.

How to Help: Winter Clothing Donation Locations

Residents are encouraged to donate new or gently used winter clothing in sizes appropriate for elementary, middle, and high school students.

Items being collected include:

Donations can be dropped off at any of the following participating locations:

Every contribution, no matter how small, helps bring the community one step closer to ensuring more local children have warm clothing when they need it.

More Than Moving: A Commitment to the Community

For Tropic Moving, giving back to Brevard County has become an important extension of the company’s mission.

Built around the slogan “Make Life Easy,” the company has spent years helping local families navigate some of life’s biggest transitions. Through community initiatives like Make Life Warmer and its Foster Care Tote Drive, Tropic Moving is finding new ways to carry that same philosophy beyond its everyday moving services.

A Personal Commitment to Helping Children in Our Community

For Tropic Moving owners Dan and Tiffany Mocerino, the Make Life Warmer initiative is a continuation of a cause that has become deeply personal to their family.

Earlier this year, the couple launched their “Care Tote” Foster Care Drive, collecting essential items and comfort supplies for children entering foster care throughout Brevard County. That initiative was inspired by their own family’s journey through the foster care and adoption process.

Having adopted both of their children through foster care, Dan and Tiffany experienced firsthand how quickly children’s lives can change and how many basic needs can go unmet, often right here in our own community.

Their experience opened their eyes to challenges that many families may never realize exist in their own backyard. From children entering foster care with very few belongings to students heading to school without adequate winter clothing, these are everyday needs that can easily go unnoticed.

The Make Life Warmer clothing drive is another opportunity to turn that awareness into action.

For the Mocerino family, these initiatives are about more than donations. They’re about using the relationships and platform they’ve built through Tropic Moving to bring people together, raise awareness, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of local children.

Their hope is that these efforts inspire others to recognize the needs around them and understand that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a lasting impact.

Together, We Can Make Life Warmer

Winter on the Space Coast may look different than it does in much of the country, but Florida still has plenty of cold mornings and every child does not have what they need to stay warm.

For families facing financial challenges, purchasing a winter jacket that may only be worn for a short season can be an added expense that they just cant afford, especially given the current economic landscape.

Through the generosity of Brevard County residents, local businesses, and community organizations, Tropic Moving hopes to make those cold mornings a little easier for students who need extra support.

Whether it’s a jacket your child has outgrown, an extra hoodie sitting in a closet, or a new winter hat purchased specifically for the drive, every donation has the potential to make a difference.

Because no child should have to face a cold morning without something warm to wear.
