Tropic Moving just celebrated 9 years strong serving Brevard County, Florida earlier this year. Over those 9 years we have handled countless commercial moves for many local businesses large and small. We have completed moves as small as just moving desks around a doctors office to as large as moving entire local car dealerships across Melbourne, FL when we moved Infinity of Melbourne. A commercial move is more than just loading and unloading furniture. There are employees involved working for the business, other contractors, new furniture arriving and being installed, renovations being completed all the way down to vendors trying to make sure internet services and other necessities are properly hooked up for business to resume at the new location as quickly as possible with minimal downtime for the business and their clients.

This article will walk you though what goes into a commercial move and how these commercial needs can quickly spill over into logistics needs and how were have evolved our service offering to be able to handle all of our business clients needs under one roof.

What Goes Into a Commercial or Office Move?

A commercial move typically takes significantly more planning than a normal local residential move. With many more parties involved, there is typically extensive planning and everything has to happen within the planned time frame with little room for error. To keep the business from experience too much downtime a commercial move typically involves a large team of experienced movers. Items like desk, workstation, cubical disassembly and reassembly, packing TV’s computers and electronics down to placement of each individual office properly there are many details to account for that a large team and a clear plan in needed.

We typically are asked to keep these moves to one day when possible and two days if packing is involved. The goal is typically to have employees up and running at the new location by the end of the move day. Many commercial moves try to schedule around the weekend to help minimize downtime and give a little extra time to ensure the team is ready for Monday of the next work week.

At Tropic Moving we are experts in commercial moving from our decade of experience operating in Brevard County and know how to plan an execute a successful commercial move from start to finish. Our decade of experience serving Space Coast businesses means we know local corporate workspaces, healthcare clinics, condo complexities, or how coastal sites bring unique operational guidelines. We have dedicated project managers on each commercial project whos job it is to plan for everything to ensure a smooth moving experience for our clients. Their duties range from securing elevator windows, coordinating loading/unloading zones, planning parking, setting up door/wall/floor protection, managing access to the buildings as well as ensuring all insurance requirements are met and a proper certificate of insurance is provided before the move begins.

Being in Melbourne lets us know and address these details upfront, build familiarity with site managers and set up the move around the facilities policies and rules. Proper coordination avoids delays and helps keep the move on a tight timeline.

When a Moves Needs go Beyond Commercial Moving

With commercial moving, many businesses move into larger facilities and naturally end up getting a lot of new furniture as part of upgrading their facilities. This can create complex needs of getting the new furniture shipped to the new office to be set up without adding extra work for the move. If the items are delivered to the current office their needs to be space to store them and then they will be added inventory to the move having to create more moving needs for the business. If they are ordered once they take over the new commercial space then they are planning on shipping times to get fully operational at the new facility and effectively cant use the extra space they moved in for until the items are delivered.

This is where a bottleneck can occur when new furniture and fixtures delivery is not matching up with construction or renovations. This is where a commercial move can quickly turn into a logistics problem requiring reconvening and storage as part of the project.

Typically these offices have multiple orders coming in from multiple manufacturers. They need the items received, stored and then the final mile delivery completed to the new office after it is ready. This allows the business to receive the new furniture and have a full move in all at once to be fully operational in their new facility immediately once the move is completed.

Not all moving companies are able to handle a changing project with a wide variety of needs like this. After a decade of servicing Melbourne, Florida we know that this is more common than not and have evolved our business to be able to handle the entire project for our clients in these cases. Becoming a true “one stop shop” for all commercial moving needs.

Why We Launched Tropic Logistics

Due to this evolving need we have found we formalized a commercial moving division into Tropic Logistics. Tropic Logistics goal is to be a one stop shop in Melbourne, Florida for all commercial receiving, warehousing, final mile delivery and anything that comes into this logistics space. Our goal from the start of Tropic Moving has been to create an easy customer centric experience that makes life easy for our clients during what is typically a very stressful time. We have taken that and and evolved it into making life easier for businesses with complex and changing needs as well as local residents of Brevard County and the Space Coast.

While we already have the crews, staff and know how to get this done and have been for years, we decided to triple down and form a full service logistics division at Tropic Moving. In part we just launched the new tropiclogistics.com website as well to further breakdown all of the services we offer commercial clients in Brevard and give a true breakdown of this new venture. This now gives our commercial division an identify of its own and helps clients more easily find us when they need help.

Commercial Receiving & Warehousing in Melbourne

Now any freight, FF&E or product can be shipped directly to our warehouse to be received instead of an unfinished jobsite or before taking over a new office building. We have the ability to inspect and store the items until the client is ready for delivery then delivery, set up fully and even haul off debris that may remain after. This also allows us to consolidate multiple orders from different places and have them all arrive at the same time. This works well for contractors as well as designers to help keep their teams on schedule.

We can handle standard items like FF&E, medical equipment etc as well as specialty items that require warehouse floor space and come with special instructions. We have a specialized warehouse page on our website that goes into more detail but now were able to receive items that a standard moving company is not able to handle. This broadens the larger service offering from Tropic Moving and lets us handle more of our clients projects to keep their relocation or renovation as easy as possible.

Final-Mile Delivery & Placement

When a company is ordering new furniture a lot of times the furniture is just dropped of via a freight trucking company and the client is left to figure out getting it assembled and set up, or even just inside the building. Our solution is that we now accept freight directly to our facility, instead of a curbside fright delivery and then we will store the shipment until the clients ready. Once the client is ready our team will deliver the items exactly where they need to go, fully set up and assemble as well as haul off all packing and debris. A true full service set up and install to keep our business clients focusing on what they do to keep their business running at a high level, instead of becoming the general contractor for their own project. .

Our crews typically operate with 2-3 crew members and will complete this inside delivery and set up that freight drivers simply wont do. The freight drivers are typically coming in from long distances and are just one driver and set up is simply unrealistic in most cases. Where our team comes in to fill this “final mile” gap to get the project to the finish line. We even service designers that need a specialty item picked up and a white glove service to handle final delivery. We have the perfect balance of expertise, equipment and ability to handle anything from A to Z in this space. You can read more about this service on our final mile delivery page.

How the Two Businesses Work Together

The goal of having Tropic Moving and Tropic Logistics is for the two companies to complement each other and give our customers one local service team that can handle the different needs of our clients that come up during a large commercial relocation

A great example is when we have residential moves involving local interior designers. We have worked on projects where a client is moving into a new home that their designer is actively working on. They are ordering new furniture, décor, and other pieces from multiple manufacturers. This is typically done when the new home is new construction and the new furniture either has to be delivered to the unfinished home, which cant happen until a certificate of occupancy is issued, or to the clients current home, which then turns into storage space and then the item has to be moved again. Instead of having those shipments delivered at different times and finding space to store it all, Tropic Logistics can receive the incoming furniture at our Melbourne warehouse, inspect and document the shipments, and safely store everything until the new home is ready for it to all be delivered and installed for the designers “reveal” day.

When moving day arrives, Tropic Moving can handle the client’s local residential move while Tropic Logistics coordinates the new furniture delivery simultaneously for the designer or business. Our logistics team can deliver the designer’s furniture brand new, place it according to the project plan, and remove the packaging materials as well. The result is a much more coordinated transition that creates a seamless transition into the new space for our designer and the new homeowner.

The same approach can be applied to commercial projects. A healthcare office preparing for a move may need its existing furniture and equipment moved while new furniture, fixtures, and equipment are arriving from several manufacturers. A retail storefront may need existing contents relocated while new shelving, counters, displays, and other FF&E that better fit the new space, are received and stored until the space is ready.

In those situations, Tropic Moving can manage the traditional relocation while Tropic Logistics handles the receiving, warehousing, project staging, final-mile delivery, assembly, and placement of the new products.

Having both operations operating allows one local team to coordinate the entire project while keeping communication and service standards consistent for all parties involved. Whether we’re helping a family move into a newly designed home, relocating a medical office, or supporting a new retail location, the goal is the same: to Make Life Easy for our customers by coordinating the entire process and delivering the same high level of service Tropic Moving has provided throughout Brevard County for the past decade.

When these projects require a little more, Tropic Logistics is right there to step in and provide commercial receiving, warehousing, final-mile delivery, FF&E services or whenever logistics needs come up.

Having both operations operating in Melbourne, Florida, allows us to support projects from multiple angles without customers having to coordinate several different vendors and companies increasing the likelihood of crossing wires and confusion.
